Dressing for Pregnancy and Beyond

April 5, 2016 No Comments

When I was pregnant with my first, I had this weird ambition to not buy any “maternity” clothing. Most of what I saw in the stores were expensive, not THAT cute and I didn’t like the idea of filling my closet with clothes that had an expiration date. I spent the latter half of my pregnancy in maxi skirts and stretchy tank tops (summer pregnancy obvi). This time around, I went about things a little differently. I recently gave birth to my second…

Preston's Nursery

March 8, 2016 No Comments

I was deprived of the pleasure of decorating Porter’s nursery since we moved into our house less than two months before he was born and were undergoing multiple larger scale house projects at the time (first world problems, I know). It felt like torture with him being my first baby. I wanted so badly for him to have the perfect room, but I just didn’t have the physical energy to pull it off AND unpack our house. Once I adjust to being a mom of…

The Valentine’s Day Spectrum

February 10, 2016 No Comments

Valentine’s Day is this coming Sunday and I’ve been thinking about how different this holiday is for so many couples. There’s definitely a spectrum when it comes to celebrating this “Hallmark Holiday.” For some, this holiday means THE WORKS; a night out at a crowded restaurant with a fixed “Valentine’s Day” menu (which happens to be marked up three times what it normally would cost). Date goers are likely wearing some sort of red/pink ensemble. There’s probably some sort of jewelry gift…

#SecondPregnancyProblems

January 27, 2016 No Comments

“Every pregnancy is different” – a common phrase thrown around by experienced mamas who know how things work. In theory, I knew this to be true. But in reality, I find myself constantly comparing this pregnancy to my first. I actually thought this pregnancy would be easier because I had done it before…I was wrong. In hindsight, my first pregnancy was actually a breeze. My first trimester nausea was mild and I didn’t start having back pain until my third trimester. Really,…

Prepping for the second kid

December 30, 2015 No Comments

“One is none, two is ten.” My mom always used to say that and frankly, this terrifies me. In ten short weeks, I’ll be a mom of two and I’m not quite sure how the hell I’m going to pull this off. I know it’s possible – I see people do it. One of my best friends just had her third! I know it’s not a big deal to society to have two kids. But in our house, I feel like…

Kitchen Remodel Update

December 9, 2015 No Comments

Our holiday season started out in an ideal way; the day after Thanksgiving, we made the trek up to Apple Hill’s Smart’s Tree farm to cut down our Christmas tree. We got apple donuts and met up with family – Porter had a blast. That was our first real break from working on our house in weeks. Back to reality on Saturday morning as we pawned Porter off to Nana and continued to frantically try and finish the kitchen remodel before the…

Thanksgiving Sweet Potato Casserole (my secret family recipe)

November 23, 2015 No Comments

Five years ago, I was a writer for Sacmidtown.com. All my content can still be viewed there, but I decided to pull from it to share my fabulous secret family Thanksgiving recipe with you all. You can view the original post here, or see below (I tweaked it slightly as my writing style has changed). I’ll be making this on Thursday FOR SURE and so should you! In my family, Thanksgiving dinner isn’t necessarily all about the turkey.  I mean sure, I like turkey….

Bar Stool Redo

November 19, 2015 No Comments

Thanks partly to the crash of 2008 and Pinterest, millenials have perfected the art of taking cheap thrift store (and in some cases, perhaps even side of the road) finds and transforming them into stylish furniture pieces worthy of a chic home. It’s become so common, I almost felt it pointless to even bother writing about this — but every time I complete a project, I get questions as to what I did, step by step. So here it is. To be honest,…

  • Had the best Sunday celebrating the birthday twins 👯 🎂 Today @ktrec and tomorrow, @laurenerickson1027. I’m sure glad these two babes were born 34 years ago...these girls are my sunshine on a cloudy day ❤️ ⛅️ swipe for some major throwbacks ➡️
  • Fridays are for flashbacks, so here I am 26 years young after I had just said my vows to the love of my life @ryancurtismitchell. My bouquet was so heavy, my forearms were sore for days afterwards 💐🏋🏻‍♀️😂
  • “The days are long but the years are short”
💫
Today I’ve been reflecting a little bit on time as we approach the year 2019; just one year shy of the year 2020, which kind of boggles my mind when I sit and really think about it. 💫
How has it really been that long? I had Porter in 2013 when I was 28 years old and in so many ways it feels like yesterday. How am I in my mid thirties already? How was college graduation literally 11.5 years ago? How is it that Ryan and I have been together for 10 years and married for 6? 💫
My 92 year old grandmother often tells me she doesn’t feel 92 and I’m really starting to understand. I guess all we can do in this life is appreciate every moment because in a blink of an eye, we will wonder how that said moment was so long ago. 💫
This also makes me think about how life is too short to spend time with negative people or drink bad wine. And also I need to get some Botox. 😂🍷💉
  • I graduated from high school in 2003, so I vividly remember the days of film/photo albums. As digital cameras and social media took over, printing photos became kind of a rare thing for me to do. I’ve had so many scares where I think digital photos have been lost forever and I personally know people who have tragically lost precious baby/wedding photos 😭. So when I got the opportunity to partner up with @google using Google Photos, I was intrigued! On my phone and within literally FIVE minutes, I was able to create this album of our trip to Maui from over the summer. It was the easiest thing ever using the Google Photos app, cost about $20, and they have free standard shipping until 12/12! This album has already been a coffee table conversation piece and my kids have been fondly reminiscing our trip 😍. My new normal is definitely to have Google Photo albums! These are also awesome Christmas gifts 🎁🤩#googlephotos #photobooks #googlepartner
  • Christmas magic through their eyes ✨🎄🎅🏻
  • Yesterday we had our first parent-teacher conference for TK and it turned out to be much more thorough than I would have imagined. It was so amazing to hear feedback from his teacher about this boy we’ve been trying to mold & raise for the past 5 years. So many things said about him that made me just beam with pride, but the most profound praise was that he exhibits an unusual sense of empathy and compassion for others. If there was any one trait in this world I could hope for my kids to have, it would be that❤️ #portercurtis
  • Porter: I wish it was Saturday.
.
Me: Why?
.
Porter: So I can be here and do hugs with you all day.
.
Porter said this to me as I was hugging him. He went from driving me crazy (arguing with basically everything I say all day, urrrday) to making me cry with his sweet words. Hello emotional roller coaster 🤪😭😍❤️
  • When you rush into your toddler’s room because of the silence and find this 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t even know who you are anymore Presto 😂 #prestonhenry #thisistwo
