A little House of Mitchells update

August 2, 2017 No Comments

We are officially Arden Park residents! After selling our Roseville house and then living with Ryan’s mom for 2.5 weeks, we pulled the trigger and moved into our fixer upper home in our dream neighborhood about three weeks ago — I seriously cannot even believe it’s already been that long. We had originally planned on doing major renovations prior to move-in, but plans changed for various reasons: Living with Ryan’s mom proved to be less comfortable than we had originally envisioned; if…

SOLD: My Feelings on Selling Our First House

June 12, 2017 No Comments

If you follow my Instagram stories, I’m sure you’re aware that we sold our home and are getting ready to move. I have mixed feelings about this, but I’m surprised at how numb I’m becoming as the move out date gets closer. Is it an emotional defense mechanism? Will it finally hit me as we drive away for the last time? After all, this is where I brought my babies home from the hospital; it’s where they both took their first steps;…

10 Dollar Summer Dress

May 21, 2017 No Comments

I’m sure you all know by now that I love a good bargain, so when I saw this ten dollar dress at H&M I thought it was almost too good to be true. I had Preston with me, so I just took it home and hoped it would work and it did! The temperature has been pushing into the 90’s in Sacramento lately, so this was the PERFECT date night dress. I paired it with a blazer and wedges since I was out at…

Treat Yo-Self this Mother’s Day with JORD

May 11, 2017 No Comments

Giveaway Alert: see at the bottom of this post Mother’s Day is around the corner, as you’re all well aware. While I typically do not expect any sort of Mother’s Day gift aside from a card that talks about what a fantastic mother I am (Ok, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t also want a pretty bouquet), I was wanting to treat myself this year since being a mom of two has proven to be much more of a challenge…

Girl Boss Feature: Home Décor Signs by Sarah Phulps

April 4, 2017 No Comments

Sarah Phulps, aka @shes.scripty (go follow her!) makes and sells the CUTEST décor signs for your home and recently ventured into drinkware. With a million little shops out there, I felt it was my moral obligation to share her with you all because there’s something special about her lettering that sets her apart from the rest. I’m not even kidding when I say that looking at her handwriting puts me in a good mood. Is that weird? Her lettering is like art so I…

Super Cute Shirt Under 15 Dollars

March 27, 2017 No Comments

I stumbled upon the cutest shirt yesterday while shopping at H&M and I just had to share.  It’s so convenient being able to go to ONE STORE and buy stuff for my boys and for me. Plus, everything is so reasonably priced! I’ve been known to find a top and buy it in every color, so I stayed true to form and did that yesterday with this shirt (I only bought three though). I’m rarely able to shop for myself sans kids and I rarely…

How I got my Baby to Take Naps

March 24, 2017 No Comments

I cannot believe I went through one full kid without knowing about these magical inserts that make babies sleep. I’m legitimately amazed at how it has transformed my afternoons. A couple of weeks ago, Preston would NOT take two naps and honestly, I was lucky to even get one (besides the lame 30 minute cat or car naps all moms just love). Fast-forward to today and he’s a napping pro and it really did change as soon as this bad boy arrived;…

Hey Diddle Diddle 1st Birthday

March 20, 2017 No Comments

First birthdays have always been a big deal, but millennial moms have taken it to a whole new level if you ask our Baby Boomer parents. What can I say? That’s just how we roll… Preston’s first birthday was definitely not as detail oriented as his big brother’s was because it’s just harder to plan parties with two kids in tow (second child syndrome) and also, Preston had Croup just one week earlier so we were a little distracted. Still, I wanted Preston to have a special…

Hair Care Routine

March 8, 2017 No Comments

I was hesitant to do this post because I don’t like to come across as braggadocious. Bragging about stuff just isn’t my style AT ALL, but as a blogger, I have to work on getting over that and being open regardless of how it comes across. My hair is something I’ve always been complimented on, and it’s one of the few things about myself, appearance-wise, that I have zero insecurities about. When I get compliments on it, I often say “well it’s all…

California Mom's guide to Gibson Ranch Country Park

February 24, 2017 No Comments

“We passed through Sacramento on the way to Tahoe” was a statement I heard often during the six years I lived in Orange County and later, Los Angeles. It was said innocently, but it always kinda irked me because my hometown has so much more to offer than your average passer through town and I never understood why more people couldn’t make the distinction between Sacramento and say, Modesto (no offense to Modesto). Home to over a million residents, the Sacramento region…

  • Had the best Sunday celebrating the birthday twins 👯 🎂 Today @ktrec and tomorrow, @laurenerickson1027. I’m sure glad these two babes were born 34 years ago...these girls are my sunshine on a cloudy day ❤️ ⛅️ swipe for some major throwbacks ➡️
  • Fridays are for flashbacks, so here I am 26 years young after I had just said my vows to the love of my life @ryancurtismitchell. My bouquet was so heavy, my forearms were sore for days afterwards 💐🏋🏻‍♀️😂
  • “The days are long but the years are short”
💫
Today I’ve been reflecting a little bit on time as we approach the year 2019; just one year shy of the year 2020, which kind of boggles my mind when I sit and really think about it. 💫
How has it really been that long? I had Porter in 2013 when I was 28 years old and in so many ways it feels like yesterday. How am I in my mid thirties already? How was college graduation literally 11.5 years ago? How is it that Ryan and I have been together for 10 years and married for 6? 💫
My 92 year old grandmother often tells me she doesn’t feel 92 and I’m really starting to understand. I guess all we can do in this life is appreciate every moment because in a blink of an eye, we will wonder how that said moment was so long ago. 💫
This also makes me think about how life is too short to spend time with negative people or drink bad wine. And also I need to get some Botox. 😂🍷💉
  • I graduated from high school in 2003, so I vividly remember the days of film/photo albums. As digital cameras and social media took over, printing photos became kind of a rare thing for me to do. I’ve had so many scares where I think digital photos have been lost forever and I personally know people who have tragically lost precious baby/wedding photos 😭. So when I got the opportunity to partner up with @google using Google Photos, I was intrigued! On my phone and within literally FIVE minutes, I was able to create this album of our trip to Maui from over the summer. It was the easiest thing ever using the Google Photos app, cost about $20, and they have free standard shipping until 12/12! This album has already been a coffee table conversation piece and my kids have been fondly reminiscing our trip 😍. My new normal is definitely to have Google Photo albums! These are also awesome Christmas gifts 🎁🤩#googlephotos #photobooks #googlepartner
  • Christmas magic through their eyes ✨🎄🎅🏻
  • Yesterday we had our first parent-teacher conference for TK and it turned out to be much more thorough than I would have imagined. It was so amazing to hear feedback from his teacher about this boy we’ve been trying to mold & raise for the past 5 years. So many things said about him that made me just beam with pride, but the most profound praise was that he exhibits an unusual sense of empathy and compassion for others. If there was any one trait in this world I could hope for my kids to have, it would be that❤️ #portercurtis
  • Porter: I wish it was Saturday.
.
Me: Why?
.
Porter: So I can be here and do hugs with you all day.
.
Porter said this to me as I was hugging him. He went from driving me crazy (arguing with basically everything I say all day, urrrday) to making me cry with his sweet words. Hello emotional roller coaster 🤪😭😍❤️
  • When you rush into your toddler’s room because of the silence and find this 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t even know who you are anymore Presto 😂 #prestonhenry #thisistwo
  • Thankful for these goofs today and everyday 💙💙 #porterandprestonm #builtinbestfriend @dianaelenaphotos
