How I lost 40 Pounds Without Depriving Myself

April 12, 2018 No Comments

I’ve dropped 40 lbs since this photo to the left was taken last March, so I decided it was a good time to open up about this journey that I didn’t even really set out for. I guess I’ll start by going way back…back to my birth weight. I was born at 9 lbs 8 oz so from my earliest moment, I was not a small human. I was chunk city as a baby – I had rolls for days. I was never overweight as a kid, but I always had more muscle mass than my peers and wasn’t…

Life’s Gripes and Grapes | And a Unique Wooden Watch

Anyone who’s married knows marriage isn’t always a cakewalk. I think that’s good though because if it were, there would be no opportunity for growth. Constant cakewalking=stagnant relationship. My goal in my marriage is to always be evolving and growing with Ryan. I have an expectation that I will gradually know him more and more deeply as the days go by and sometimes the fastest way to do that is to experience adversity together — it’s the silver lining to crappy situations. Everyone goes through tough times in his or her lives and most people choose not to share…

8 Reasons I Love Being a Boy Mom

January 2, 2018 No Comments

Let me start this off by saying that this post is not a dig at girl moms or to say being a boy mom is better. Nor is this meant to imply that I wouldn’t love a daughter one day, because of course I would. What I’m sharing today is simply all the things I love about having boys. I can shape them into gentlemen This is probably the biggest one in light of all the recent news stories on inappropriate male behavior. I didn’t participate in the social media #metoo frenzy for various reasons, but I’ve experienced my…

Message to the Judgmental Natural Birth Moms

December 14, 2017 No Comments

Note: This is an old blog post I found in my drafts. I edited it a little bit since my writing style has changed, but my feelings on this topic are the same. Dear random judgmental mom at the grocery store, On a casual shopping trip to Trader Joes, you successfully ruined my day. I’m sure you didn’t mean to, but you did. My 10-month-old Porter was sitting in the shopping cart eating samples, happy as a clam. Just prior to bumping into you, a kind stranger told me that he looks like Prince George. We’d gotten this before;…

Tulle Skirt Round-up

December 5, 2017 No Comments

I’m what society  snarkily refers to as a #basicbitch. I love Christmas, I’m a sorority alumni, I have fake blonde hair, I enjoy Louis Vuittons paired with everything (including my Ugg boots when I feel like being cozy, which is often), I wear leggings as pants, Nordstrom is life, I sometimes hit curbs while driving my Chevy Tahoe mom-mobile, I like white subway tile, I listen to gangster rap when I’m driving without my kids in the car, you get the idea. So I’m sure it’s a big shocker that I LOVE any excuse to glam up in some…

Mitchell Family Holiday Photos 2017

November 1, 2017 No Comments

Photo shoots are HARD when you have a four year old and a nineteen month old. With Porter, we were dealing with smile refusals and attitude problems. With Preston, we were dealing with just general crazy behavior that mostly included running away when we put him somewhere to stand or sit or even heaven forbid we hold him and he isn’t diving head first to the ground. I tried bribing with food, but it was ineffective. Somehow our photographer managed to capture some moments that made it look like we have our *ish* together, so thanks for that Jacki…

How MomFriends Make or Break your #Momlife

August 18, 2017 No Comments

Momfriend: A friend you make with the common bond of both being moms The term “momfriend” didn’t enter my vocabulary until I had my first baby. Before that, I just had “friends” or “girlfriends.” Fast forward four years and my “momfriends” are just my friends, because the only friends I have left are moms (with the exception of a few). “A good momfriend is a lifeline when you’re drowning in a sea of crying babies, unfolded laundry and cranky husbands.” It wasn’t until I became a mom that I realized the crazy bond momfriends have. I literally feel like…

A little House of Mitchells update

August 2, 2017 No Comments

We are officially Arden Park residents! After selling our Roseville house and then living with Ryan’s mom for 2.5 weeks, we pulled the trigger and moved into our fixer upper home in our dream neighborhood about three weeks ago — I seriously cannot even believe it’s already been that long. We had originally planned on doing major renovations prior to move-in, but plans changed for various reasons: Living with Ryan’s mom proved to be less comfortable than we had originally envisioned; if we are going glamp, may as well do it in our own house We were naïve thinking…

SOLD: My Feelings on Selling Our First House

June 12, 2017 No Comments

If you follow my Instagram stories, I’m sure you’re aware that we sold our home and are getting ready to move. I have mixed feelings about this, but I’m surprised at how numb I’m becoming as the move out date gets closer. Is it an emotional defense mechanism? Will it finally hit me as we drive away for the last time? After all, this is where I brought my babies home from the hospital; it’s where they both took their first steps; it’s where I learned about all the intricacies of motherhood. It’s also a project that Ryan and…

10 Dollar Summer Dress

May 21, 2017 No Comments

I’m sure you all know by now that I love a good bargain, so when I saw this ten dollar dress at H&M I thought it was almost too good to be true. I had Preston with me, so I just took it home and hoped it would work and it did! The temperature has been pushing into the 90’s in Sacramento lately, so this was the PERFECT date night dress. I paired it with a blazer and wedges since I was out at night, but you could easily dress this down with some sandals sans jacket for the daytime. I…

  • Had the best Sunday celebrating the birthday twins 👯 🎂 Today @ktrec and tomorrow, @laurenerickson1027. I’m sure glad these two babes were born 34 years ago...these girls are my sunshine on a cloudy day ❤️ ⛅️ swipe for some major throwbacks ➡️
  • Fridays are for flashbacks, so here I am 26 years young after I had just said my vows to the love of my life @ryancurtismitchell. My bouquet was so heavy, my forearms were sore for days afterwards 💐🏋🏻‍♀️😂
  • “The days are long but the years are short”
💫
Today I’ve been reflecting a little bit on time as we approach the year 2019; just one year shy of the year 2020, which kind of boggles my mind when I sit and really think about it. 💫
How has it really been that long? I had Porter in 2013 when I was 28 years old and in so many ways it feels like yesterday. How am I in my mid thirties already? How was college graduation literally 11.5 years ago? How is it that Ryan and I have been together for 10 years and married for 6? 💫
My 92 year old grandmother often tells me she doesn’t feel 92 and I’m really starting to understand. I guess all we can do in this life is appreciate every moment because in a blink of an eye, we will wonder how that said moment was so long ago. 💫
This also makes me think about how life is too short to spend time with negative people or drink bad wine. And also I need to get some Botox. 😂🍷💉
  • I graduated from high school in 2003, so I vividly remember the days of film/photo albums. As digital cameras and social media took over, printing photos became kind of a rare thing for me to do. I’ve had so many scares where I think digital photos have been lost forever and I personally know people who have tragically lost precious baby/wedding photos 😭. So when I got the opportunity to partner up with @google using Google Photos, I was intrigued! On my phone and within literally FIVE minutes, I was able to create this album of our trip to Maui from over the summer. It was the easiest thing ever using the Google Photos app, cost about $20, and they have free standard shipping until 12/12! This album has already been a coffee table conversation piece and my kids have been fondly reminiscing our trip 😍. My new normal is definitely to have Google Photo albums! These are also awesome Christmas gifts 🎁🤩#googlephotos #photobooks #googlepartner
  • Christmas magic through their eyes ✨🎄🎅🏻
  • Yesterday we had our first parent-teacher conference for TK and it turned out to be much more thorough than I would have imagined. It was so amazing to hear feedback from his teacher about this boy we’ve been trying to mold & raise for the past 5 years. So many things said about him that made me just beam with pride, but the most profound praise was that he exhibits an unusual sense of empathy and compassion for others. If there was any one trait in this world I could hope for my kids to have, it would be that❤️ #portercurtis
  • Porter: I wish it was Saturday.
.
Me: Why?
.
Porter: So I can be here and do hugs with you all day.
.
Porter said this to me as I was hugging him. He went from driving me crazy (arguing with basically everything I say all day, urrrday) to making me cry with his sweet words. Hello emotional roller coaster 🤪😭😍❤️
  • When you rush into your toddler’s room because of the silence and find this 🤷🏻‍♀️. I don’t even know who you are anymore Presto 😂 #prestonhenry #thisistwo
  • Thankful for these goofs today and everyday 💙💙 #porterandprestonm #builtinbestfriend @dianaelenaphotos
